It happened on the northbound lanes south of Missouri 364.

ST. LOUIS, MO – A 42-year-old woman from O’Fallon was killed Thursday evening, December 19, in a multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 270 in northwest St. Louis, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The fatal incident occurred on the northbound lanes south of Missouri State Route 364 and was first reported at about 6:30 p.m.

Officials say a 39-year-old Florissant man was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox northbound when the vehicle came to a stop in lane 4 because of mechanical issues. Shortly after, a 2022 Ford Escape driven by a 42-year-old O’Fallon woman came to a stop behind the Equinox. A 24-year-old Manchester man was driving a 2017 GMC Terrain failed to see that traffic was stopped ahead, causing the vehicle to rear-end the Ford Escape. The Ford Escape then rear-ended the Equinox, which came to rest in lane 4. The Ford Escape and the GMC Terrain came to a stop in lanes 2 and 3.

The 42-year-old driver of the Ford Escape was pronounced deceased on the scene.

A 4-year-old child in the Ford Escape suffered serious injuries and was transported to Children’s Hospital St. Louis. The driver of the GMC Terrain was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for serious injuries.

Officials have not released any information regarding pending charges or citations at this time.
