2 drivers were sent to Mercy Hospital

ST. LOUIS, MO – Two male drivers, ages 17 and 20, made improper lane changes on I-64 West near the St. Louis Zoo, leading to a multi-vehicle wreck that sent two people to a hospital.

The collision occurred after 11:15 p.m. Saturday along Clayton Road, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol. After the two aforementioned drivers pursued the unsafe lane changes, the 17-year-old St. Louis teenager, driving a Jeep Compass, struck the driver’s side of a 2024 Volkswagen Taos and then a 2020 Acura RDX.

The 20-year-old St. Louis driving a 2012 Nissan Altima then struck the Acura. The Acura slid across, causing its driver, a 79-year-old Wildwood man, to then hit a guardrail.

Brentwood fire crews hurried the 79-year-old man and 17-year-old teenager to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. The elderly man was treated for moderate wounds, and the 17-year-old for minor wounds.

Troopers said the teenager did not wear a seatbelt and drove without insurance. They did not say if they cited the minor.
