The driver, a 16-year-old girl De Soto resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO – Troopers responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash early Friday, January 18, near De Soto that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl and left another teen injured, reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The fatal accident happened at 4220 Sunrise School Road, prompting an emergency response shortly after 1:10 a.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, the 16-year-old girl, of De Soto, was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger eastbound when, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and hit an embankment.

The teen driver, who was ejected as the Ford Ranger overturned, died at the scene. Officials noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 15-year-old girl from Barnhart who was also found to have not been wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Mercy Hospital South for minor injuries.
