Personal Life

Alan lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and two children.

In his spare time, Alan enjoys watching his kids’ youth sports, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta, Braves, and New Orleans Saints.

When I was a corporate defense lawyer, I represented the family of a child who was killed through the negligence of an instructor at a ski resort on the West Coast. It was a horrific incident where the child’s spinal cord was severed, and he died on the mountain with his parents pleading for help. Because of the draconian tort reform laws in effect at the time, the instructor and the large corporation he worked for were essentially immune from liability. We were able to convince the corporation to pay a small settlement to the family – ‘peanuts’ compared to the actual value of the case and of the child’s life. It was a true injustice brought about by tort reform and the politicians who pushed it through. At that moment, I knew I would stop protecting the powerful and I would dedicate my life to representing the people.
